A full band at a wedding typically means 6–10 musicians, a production manager, a separate sound engineer, a long load-in window, and a price tag that crowds out everything else in your budget. The Live Trio is different.

Three string players who have performed together before, understand each other’s tendencies, and know how to share a stage without filling every gap. The ensemble may feature violin, viola, and cello or another bowed instrument configuration chosen for your event.

Royaal’s wedding live trio performs at venues throughout Southern California, including Orange County, Los Angeles, Malibu, and beyond.

How The Three Instruments Work Together

Each instrument in the trio covers a different register and role within the ensemble. Together they produce a full, layered string sound with no gaps in the harmony.

Violin — Melody & Lead Voice

The highest voice in the trio. Carries the melodic line that your guests will hear and recognize. Leads slow and mid-tempo moments, ceremony passages, and first dance.

Viola — Harmony & Warmth

The middle voice. The viola fills the harmonic space between violin and cello, adding warmth, richness, and body to the ensemble sound. Without it, string music can feel thin.

Cello — Foundation & Depth

The lowest voice and rhythmic anchor of the trio. The cello provides a deep, resonant foundation beneath the violin melody.

How It Works

Three players. One shared plan.

Full event brief

We map out the entire event arc with you. Each moment gets a designated ensemble role, a genre direction, and an energy level.

Ensemble rehearsal

The three players and the DJ run through the event structure together before the day. They establish cues for transitions, agree on which passages are led by which instrument, and prepare any cultural repertoire specific to your event.

Soundcheck & stage plot

Each instrument is mic’d or DI’d and balanced through the main PA during the pre-event soundcheck. Violin, viola, and cello each have individual channel control so the engineer can bring any voice forward or pull it back in real time as the set moves through its arc.

Live performance

The trio performs across the full reception. Ceremony with violin leading, cocktail hour with the full trio at ambient volume, first dance with strings and DJ together, dance floor with all three building above the mix.

How We Structure The Night

Every moment has a lead.

Ceremony

The violin leads the processional and recessional with precision and emotional clarity, shaped for the acoustics of the ceremony space. The viola and cello form a soft harmonic foundation beneath. Together, the trio performs as a restrained chamber ensemble.

Cocktail Hour

The full trio plays together at ambient volume, performing classical crossover, light contemporary, and cultural repertoire based on your guest mix. The sound creates a warm, social atmosphere without demanding the room’s full attention.

Grand Entrance

All three instruments perform the entrance together. The cello drives the rhythm, the viola fills the harmony, and the violin carries the melody of the entrance arrangement.

First Dance

The violin carries the first dance melody while the viola and cello support with warmth and depth. The trio plays softly as the couple dances, creating an intimate focus within the room. The DJ steps back as the strings define the atmosphere.

Peak Reception

All three players are amplified above the DJ mix, with the violin carrying the melodic line, the viola filling harmony, and the cello driving the lower register in sync with the bass. A 60–90 minute window where the ensemble is fully deployed.

What instruments make up the Live Trio?

The trio is a string ensemble, typically violin, viola, and cello. These bowed instruments from the same family create a complete harmonic range when played together, with melody in the violin, inner harmony in the viola, and a resonant foundation in the cello.

Do all three players perform at the same time throughout the night?

The trio plays together for most of the evening, but the roles shift depending on the moment. During the ceremony, the violin takes the lead with the viola and cello providing quiet harmonic support. During the first dance, the ensemble plays softly as a unit. At peak reception, all three are fully amplified and performing above the DJ mix. The structure is planned with you in advance so every moment has the right sonic weight.

How much stage space do three string players require?

During cocktail hour, the players perform as a chamber group within the reception space, with no dedicated stage required. For the reception, the DJ and trio share a unified performance area. Stage plots are confirmed with your venue coordinator prior to the event.

Is the Live Trio available as a full-night booking only?

The trio is most effective when booked for the full event. We can also structure a partial booking around the moments that matter most to you, including ceremony only, cocktail hour and grand entrance, or peak reception. Share your priorities and we’ll build a package around them.
